Andre Citroen was born on February 5, 1878, into a Parisian family of Jewish diamond merchants. His mother was of Polish descent. That is why, after graduating from the Polytechnic, Andre went on a trip to Poland, where he came into contact with herringbone gears. He bought a patent and decided to produce them in France. His first contact with the automotive industry was in 1908, when he became the manager of the Mors brand, which he pulled out of a financial hole and increased production from 125 to 1,200 vehicles per year.

This success, combined with the development of the gear factory, pushed Citroen to start producing vehicles under his own name. This is how the brand was born, inspired by Henry Ford's approach to business. Citroen intended to be a mass producer of cars, offering cheap, simple vehicles. The first model of the brand debuted in 1919. Very quickly, he managed to become a leading car manufacturer in Europe.
