Take care of your brakes! June promotion: FIAT!
Production of the Fiat 126p began on June 6, 1973.
The production of the Fiat 126p officially began on July 22, 1973, but the first units were assembled at the Bielsko-Biała factory as early as June. These initial cars were built entirely from Italian parts, as Polish industry was still preparing to manufacture its own components. The official production start date was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the PKWN manifesto. By the end of 1973, only 1,500 units were produced.
Production volume significantly increased in subsequent years, as the share of Polish-made parts grew and a new plant in Tychy was launched. In 1974, 10,000 units were produced, and a year later, thanks to the second factory, total production reached 31,500 units.
It's worth noting that the first car produced at the newly established Fabryka Samochodów Małolitrażowych (FSM) in Bielsko-Biała was not the Polish Fiat 126p at all, but rather the Syrena 105, whose production began there in 1972.
